First Friday Folk Concert Series

The Bay Area Women's Center (BAWC) is proud to present the official kick-off of its First Friday Folk series, bringing the nation's top singer-songwriters to Bay City for an intimate and engaging evening of music to benefit survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Please join us on Friday, January 8, 2010, at Bay City's Westminster Presbyterian Church, as we welcome the incomparable Greg Greenway to the First Friday Folk stage.  Greenway, who has been described as "one of the strongest, and finest voices in folk music" is a soulful and moving singer, expert instrumentalist, dedicated political activist, powerful poet, and sparkling entertainer.  Originally from Richmond, VA, Greenway moved to Boston for its rich folk music tradition and has become one of its most unique and superlative emissaries. In the words of the Boston Globe, "few modern folk singers can own a stage as completely as Greenway."  Greenway will be joined by special guests Jen Cass (Bay City's own folk phenomenon), and the Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy Choir, for an unforgettable evening of song.

On Friday, February 5, 2010, First Friday Folk brings Michigan's folk/blues sweetheart, multi-instrumentalist Jen Sygit (www.jensygit.com) to the stage with friend and fellow folk favorite Sam Corbin (www.samcorbin.com).

On Friday, March 5, 2010, First Friday Folk continues with an international chart-topper: singer-songwriter sensation Drew Nelson. (www.drewnelson.net).

First Friday Folk concerts begin at 7:00 pm and are preceded by an intimate reception with our featured performers at 6:15 pm.

First Friday Folk does not charge admission as all our performers have agreed to donate their time and talent to benefit this worthy cause.  However, there is a suggested donation of $10 per person to support the Bay Area Women's Center and its effort to eliminate Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Bay & Arenac Counties.
