Housing Advocacy

The Housing Advocate develops and monitors a housing assessment plan specifically focused on housing-related issues and assists residents and non-residents in obtaining affordable housing. The Housing Advocate will assist clients in the following ways:

· Collaborate and network with local agencies

· Advocating on behalf of the resident with community resources

· Locating appropriate, affordable housing

· Transporting to housing appointments and advocating with landlords

· Teaching residents to build quality relationships with landlords

· Explaining tenant and landlord rights

· Assisting with obtaining furniture and household items

· Coordinating and conducting home visits after a resident has left shelter

The Housing Advocate conducts housing education presentations for the Life Skills Group, consisting of Tenant/Landlord rights and responsibilities, communicating with landlords, maintaining and fixing prior evictions, judgments, debts and developing budgeting skills.
