In the United States, April has been recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month since 2001.
Why do we need a month dedicated to spreading awareness about sexual assault? The answer is simple: it is not possible to prevent something that no one knows about. SAAM is all about awareness, education, and prevention. Sexual violence is a major public health, human rights and social justice issue. In order to end sexual violence, we need all hands on deck. For more information and to stay updated with SAAM activities, click here to see resources from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC). The NSVRC is a leader in providing the latest news and resources on sexual violence.
