Judy V Spencer 5K-9 Run/Walk

We are excited to announce the return of the Judy V Spencer Fund 5K-9 Run/Walk!

The race will be held Sunday, June 12th in Bay City. Join us by participating in this unique 5K race that lets you bring along your best friend – your dog!

Through this race, it is our mission to give hope to survivors of violence by raising awareness, engaging in education with the community, and providing funds to support the boarding costs for pets. All funds raised through this event support the Judy V Spencer Fund held at the Bay Area Women's Center to cover the boarding costs for survivors seeking shelter with their pet.

The event is hosted at the Bay City Community Center, 800 John F. Kennedy Dr, Bay City, MI 48706. Race entry comes with a bandana and dog tags. The race is timed and prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the male and female categories. Packet pickup begins at 7 a.m. You do not need a dog to participate in this timed 5K race. The race has individual start times for runners and walkers with/without dogs so everyone can have an enjoyable race. Start times are as follows: 

  • 8 a.m. - runners without dogs

  • 8:05 a.m. - runners with dogs

  • 8:10 a.m. - walkers without dogs

  • 8:15 a.m. - walkers with dogs


Registration is $25 before May 30. Cost increases to $35 after May 30.

Cutest Pet Contest

You know your pet is the cutest, right? Prove it!

Enter your pet in our cutest pet contest for a chance to win a pet gift basket and free entry into the 5K-9 run/walk. Submit your photo entry via email to One pet per photo, please. Voting will take place on Facebook on the Judy V Spencer Fund/JVSO Facebook page. Voting ends on May 12th. The pet photo with the most likes will determine the cutest pet and be our contest winner!
