Legal Support and Victim Advocacy

Victim Advocates
A Victim Advocate is available to assist victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. BAWC offers guidance and support through the legal system and provide assistance with the necessary paperwork to aid in the prosecution of the assailant. They can also help with legal matters such as Personal Protection Orders (PPO), other court orders, court accompaniment, and attorney referrals.
Victims of stalking and domestic violence are often confused and intimidated by the PPO process. Our skilled staff helps make this process simple and provides reassurance to those who may not have had experience with the court system.
BAWC provides a safe, supportive and nonjudgmental atmosphere for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault to begin to rebuild trust, to develop a sense of security, and to reduce feelings of isolation and self-blame. Advocates assist victims with their concerns in a confidential manner without interfering with the medical, reporting, investigative, or court processes.
All advocacy services are confidential and free of charge. This program is supported by VOCA (Victims of Crime Act).
