Internships

Social Work Interns

To introduce students to social work as a professional, and to provide direct experiences with professional identity and ethics, service to diverse populations, information about the range of social services in Bay and Arenac counties, and career opportunities for social workers.

Position Responsibilities include:

​

  • To assist with Crisis Office phones and assist residents as needed.

  • Assist the staff with specific projects related to BAWC programs and services.

  • Observe at least 1 new residential intake (Advocacy).

  • Observe at least 2 of the Education & Training Videos.

  • Interview 5 key staff regarding their position and how it relates to the field of social work.

  • Observe at least 1 Court proceeding (intervention)-if schedule allows.

  • Participate in a fundraising or special events related to BAWC-if schedule allows.

  • Prepare a report of your experience at BAWC.

  • ​

Prevention Education Interns

  • Present information to groups on the issues of domestic violence, dating violence, child sexual abuse and sexual assault.

  • Research issues related to domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Assist with communication to clients.

  • Prepare and maintain records, files and necessary paperwork.

Fundraising and Event Planning Interns

  • Work in conjunction with development staff to increase agency revenue.

  • Assist in planning process for agency fundraising events.

  • Coordinate with external constituencies conducting third party events.

  • Post event related information using the agency’s social media channels i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.

  • Draft articles for the agency newsletter in regard to events.

Public Relations and Social Media Interns

  • Work in conjunction with development staff to implement the agency’s social media plan.

  • Provide regular updates via the agency’s social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube.

  • Take appropriate measures to increase the Agency’s social media followers.

  • Draft content for the website and Agency newsletter.

  • Maintain the agency website.

  • Assist in drafting press releases when appropriate.

  • Create and maintain press packets.

  • Track agency press coverage.
